Description

This build is based on uthermal's own BC build which starts with a reaper expand and only one starport.

With my version of this build we go for a CC first opener and a double starport which hits the zerg base 30 seconds later than uthermal's build.

VOD is in french, but feel free to watch to see the build in action.

Analysis

Defending:

Sack your reaper at 3min. Just go for his base and make sure to see what he's producing. The hardest part of the build is surviving all the bullshit the zerg can do to punish greedy terrans like us !

Sometimes they will change their plan because they scouted your first CC, but sometimes they will cheese right from the get go with a one base bbust or a ravager rush.

  • against roaches ling, or ravagers you have to make cyclones and banshee. I would advise aborting the BC timing depending on the damage you suffered.
  • against mass ling runby: He will usually have 3 hatches but few drones in his natural. If you scout it a simple counter is to finish your wall immediately. If you don't have time to do that or to pull back your scvs the game is not over but you will suffer severe economical damage.
  • against 2/3 base baneling bust: Follow the plan as best as you can. It will delay your BCs but if the zerg doesn't kill you it's fine.
  • against 1 base bbust: depending on the map some lings will appear right before your CC finishes. Close the wall and then cancel your CC. If you don't have the gas for factory just put an ebay or a rax. You will have to make sure to seal the part of your wall where there is your supply with ebays, but don't finish them to save the mineral later. Produce marines/hellions and build a CC when you have the mineral.
  • against in base nydus: pull your scvs with your hellions and surround the nydus to kill it as soon as possible to buy yourself some time (he will remake it) and force him to waste heal on the nydus. Don't fight the queens, just back off and wait for your armoury to finish if it's not done so you have hellbat instead of weak hellions. You must stop producing BCs after the initial two and go for banshees as you need to stabilize ASAP. Most of the time what's going to come out of that worm is queens + roach or sometimes swarmhosts so here banshees will be of better use while costing much less. You should also obviously counter attack with your two BC as he shouldn't have too much defense especially if you killed all his queens. I must also point out that this is something that you can scout: early lair, delayed third, lot of gas being harvested, no ling speed etc... so if you scout it with a reaper or hellion runby, make sure to scan a bit later to confirm what he's doing.
  • against 12 pool: if he targets your CC then close your wall with a factory and then cancel your CC and rebuild it, but if he doesn't quickly throw down an ebay to prevent him from rampaging your mineral line. Either way you have no choice but to cancel your CC. Unless you know your opponent like 12 pool and you make your CC inbase you can't really prevent it.

Attacking:

  • your hellions are here to roast drones, zerglings and banelings. They're fine against roaches in small number if you transform into hellbats. If the zerg army is too big then only use your hellions to keep him inside his base, you have to buy time for your second round of battlecruiser and other units/buildings like tanks, cyclones and additional factories.
  • your BC should yamato queens with the most energy and tech buildings like a spire or an hydra den. Use them to deprive the zerg of his main base income. TP back to base when your BC gets low, or flee if the zerg manages to critically damage your BC before TP is back online. You can also hide in the corner if the map allows it.

Adapting:

I'm well aware that now some like to go for cyclone hellion banshee/BC, but know that you can also transition into standard mech.

  • Against corruptors: I would advise stopping BC production for the time being, but if they do go for corruptors, know that upgraded cyclones rekt them.
  • Against mutalisk: Your BCs will be fine for a while but it's better to stick with thors as he can make corruptors out of that spire.
  • Against roach hydra: focus on tanks and hellbats.
  • Against roach ravagers: I guess BCs are fine against this now.
  • Against swarmhost: hunt them with banshees/bc/cyclones...
  • Against mass hydra: hellions can actually deal with this if you have enough of them with blue flame. You must circle the hydras for maximum effiency. Bonus point if you drop hellbats into them. Don't fight if he has time to make a concave. Still make some tanks for defense just in case, tanks are always good to have against hydras.

So since the new patch I wonder if we can still produce BC, mostly because current cyclone can kill corruptors fast enough which wasn't the case before. Still, BC aren't OP and you could die if that's all you have. It's probably better to have a healthy 4 base economy before going deep into BC prod.
