Description

If you want to challenge yourself a bit more as a beginner, or just for any gold+ players that want a great opening you can use in every matchup with just a few small adjustments here and there. It can work right through to GM in all 3 matchups. It requires you to be a little tighter with your order to get the most out of the opening. This is a big part of Terran play as the openings can be super advanced, and good build execution is vital to strong Terran play. This style also really rewards good bio medivac control and pushes you to get the most out of your early pressure.

Analysis

Notes:

  • Putting spotting scvs or marines on the watchtowers to give you some warning of enemy attacks is a great move, get used to it
  • Always pressure with your first 2 medivacs and marines - you don’t need to do killing damage but you should always move to the enemy territory.
  • A bit of practice with your pickup micro to get out of bad situations will make this a risk-free move!
  • If you’re worried about invisible or flying units, just drop a few turrets at your bases around 4:30. No earlier than this as it disrupts your economy to invest in this too early. So 4:00 engineering bay if you want to be very safe for this. As you get better you’ll learn when you can get away with skipping these entirely.

Controlling Drops + bio

  • Spreading bio - How to micro https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTcdPlk1cds
  • How to load up in one click
  • Army hotkeyd and selected
  • Just right click on the dropships
  • Manually moving medivacs over the bio so they don’t decelerate or get blocked by melee units attacking them
  • Selecting the loaded medivac from the pack by telling them all to drop somewhere, only it will respond
  • Splitting off Drops
  • Control group stealing away the drop

I feel this build is still pretty up to date for the current meta! One correction: in your VOD you take the 2nd gas right after your 2nd depot, as opposed to along with you factory as is suggested here. Taking your gas that late significantly reduced the speed at which you can get your medivacs out/ can get stim so I'd say that's pretty important. Otherwise thanks for the build and accompanying vid :)

Gusbusta post a replay on https://www.reddit.com/r/AllThingsTerran/ asking for feedback, people will watch and tell you what to do better. Be a lot more specific with exactly what the zergs build order was, how many drones etc when they rush you.

What to do when when zerg rushes out zerglings? I lose the second base (and the game) every time.

Anyway better handling of this build could compensate this weaknesses in games before diamond.

Thanks Pig, with this BO I enjoy Terrans much more.

to continue previous post.
2medivacs: controlling it you'll find your base with 1500 minerals, because you have 2 fully saturated OC.
Better just to shift-queue medivacs to drop at enemy mineral-line, bind it for separate control group. Its allows you to do macro transition and do not collect resources. Just remember to use Burst 2nd time before medivacs arrives - its matters alot about time. Arrive ASAP is more important than properly controll this drop, at least try to save 2 medivacs if your drop wont kill greedy enemy.

Weaknesses of the Build: watching streams and by own gold expirience i found that in TVT its looses vs straight forwards marine-tank-viking, in TvZ hellions would be better (but honestly i saw Polt using this BO in TvZ for drop play) + CC2 on highround or get punished by lings, in TvP no LM defence vs oracle at 3:20.

Still mastering this build, have to say its really nice build to training in right direction so far. In this BO u start training multitask + reaper control and timing attack + base spinoff.

There is some notices, for who training it.
Dangerous BO fuckups:
workers on 1st and 2nd gas, 2 supplies after reactor on factory, stimpack.

Window for reaper control:
when OC1 is finishing - do this combo of actions:
rax2, refinery2, rax1 reactor(reaper rallypoint on enemy main and away),supply, rax2techlab, workers on refinery2, factory. U have to train do it combo in time , its finishes right when reaper entering enemy base. After that combo just keep hiring SCV's and control your reaper to check all tech at main. This combo gives you time to reaper-check all enemy main and fly away to save without making new buildngs. When you ordered reaper to retreat - back to your macro, there alredy have to build starport, factory reactor, stimpack, marines, 2base scvs ad 2 supplies.

This is my first BO in lotv and i found it easiest terran BO because of big time windows and big action's burst.
Training this build i made 2 differences:
1. when build-bar of my first refinery is orange but nod green i have 4 scv's in queue. So scv built first barrack going straight to build second CC, in that time first CC finishing those 4th scv and i make OC.
Maybe this is the reason why sometimes I hiring 2 medivacs at 4:08 or earlier.
2. After first OC I finshing the wall with second supply instead of second rax when afraid of shenanigans.

Thanks for all your hard work, Pig! This is an amazing guide and must have taken you hours to complete. This is by far the most in depth guide on Spawning Tool that you will find on the double medivac marine opening.
