Description

Edit:

In 4.0 you have a new chronoboost. Use the first one after your first pylon finishes and then try to spend it consistently on probes, gateways and any upgrades you'd like to speed up. This is a more advanced mechanic so don't stress over it too much for now.

Now that you don't need a mothership core you also will have a little extra money, you can get your tech a bit earlier. Don't re-arrange the build just enjoy the extra 100/100 resources

This is just a very safe and solid opening for beginner Protoss to use in all 3 matchups. It’s just a guide that you can use consistently for the first few minutes of every game. You can branch off into any style you want off this opening.

As a beginner your main focus should be learning the fundamentals of macro, constantly building workers, spending your money and not getting supply blocked. I talked about this in detail in Daily #16: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMBgp-OA9Jc

Build:

  • 14 pylon
  • 16 gate
    • Keep building adepts
  • 16 gas
  • 19 Nexus
  • 19 Cybercore
  • 21 2nd pylon
  • @100% cyber core - adept + warpgate research
  • @100gas - mothership core
  • 30 2nd-3rd gate
  • 34 2nd gas
  • @200 minerals/100gas - Robo
    • Observer straight to enemy base to see what they’re up to
    • immortal production
    • Warp prism if you plan to attack
  • Twilight (soon after robo when you have money)
    • Glaives
  • @natural saturation (16+probes) - start 3rd + 4th gas
  • 4 more gates (7 total)
  • 3rd base

  • From here you can go colossi tech, storm, forges for upgrades, whatever you like.

  • You can just stop probe production nonstop warp in and try to kill your opponent with adept immortal (very effective in all matchups)
  • It’s all up to you

Walloffs

  • Always wall your main ramp
    • If you prefer you can skip this vs terran and maybe toss, but it's fine vs all 3 races so it’s fine to do every game
  • Only wall off your natural vs zerg - to stop rushes and lings from getting in, otherwise it blocks your units too much
  • Hold position unit in wall vs zerg

Analysis

Scouting + Staying Safe

  • If your opponent hasn’t expanded at all at 3:00 -
  • Stop building workers if you need to
  • focus on making army
  • Extra pylons at the front for overcharge
  • Scout their unit composition/tech if you can to see if you need anything special like detection or just a brute force number of adepts/immortals :)

You don’t have the game knowledge to have any large reactions to scouting at this point, so try not to focus on it much. Just get used to controlling the map and seeing what they’re up to once in a while.

Remember that there’s no absolute guide that will just make you win every game - your opponents are also intelligent people using all of their brain power to overcome you. Always look for areas to improve, always look to understand and experiment new units, styles or ideas in Starcraft. If you keep this critical and learning-focused mindset you’ll fall in love with Starcraft very fast. Gl learning the best and hardest game in the world!

so you suggest doing the same thing while just skipping the mothership core?
