Analysis

Notes:

  • Lings should scout your opponent and control the watchtowers if possible so you have early warning of attacks coming
  • Your first 2 overlords should try to get vision around your opponents base
    • Bonus points for sitting on high ground outside their natural to spot any attacks moving out without them knowing
  • Your other overlords should be placed around your 3 bases to give warning of ground or air attacks.
  • If you see large attacks moving out you should build army units until you have enough to kill their force before returning to drone production

Scouting + Staying Safe

  • If your opponent hasn’t expanded at all at 3:00 - Stop building drones and make army to be safe
  • Sacrifice an overlord at 4:00 through your opponents base to try and see what they’re up to
  • You can always send a ling into the front to try and see what their up to and get a feel for how much stuff they have.
  • You don’t have the game knowledge to have any large reactions to scouting at this point, so try not to focus on it much. Just get used to controlling the map and seeing what they’re up to once in a while.
  • If you’re worried about invisible or flying units, just drop a few spore crawlers at your bases every game at 4:00. No earlier than this as it disruptors your economy to invest in this. As you get better you’ll learn when you can get away with skipping these entirely.

Remember that there’s no absolute guide that will just make you win every game - your opponents are also intelligent people using all of their brain power to overcome you. Always look for areas to improve, always look to understand and experiment new units, styles or ideas in Starcraft. If you keep this critical and learning-focused mindset you’ll fall in love with Starcraft very fast. Gl learning the best and hardest game in the world!
