Description

This build is really powerful against Macro Terrans. Indeed, if at your first scout you don't see a triple rax or mass marines, you can send your mutalisks to attack their drones and then take an advantage ;) It also works against Protoss, but be careful, if you wee your ennemy are going to cheese or all-in, transit to another build like fast gling or roaches (it depends the matchup, against terran's triple rax, I advice roaches because it's stronger than reapers !)

Build Order

Why is there no SALT encoding or Overwolf build?

  13    Overlord  -> Scout
  17    Hatchery
  17    Spawning Pool  You can also build Spawning Pool after Gaz
  17    Extractor
  19    Overlord
  19    Queen x2  @100% Spawning Pool
  23    Zergling x2  (2*2 zerglings, = 4 at all)
  23    Metabolic Boost  -> Drones
  33  2:50  Queen, Lair  (@100% Queens)
  33    Overlord x2
    3:10  Extractor x3  Keep droning to 52 supply
  52    Overlord
  52    Overlord  (to 68 max)
    3:30  Spire  @100% Lair -> Suicide overlord if he's not already dead and remplace it
    4:30  Hatchery  Then drone this base
    5:00  Evolution Chamber x2  And build units you like (roach, zerglings, ...)

Analysis

  • You must have vision of what your ennemy's doing !
  • If he goes macro, this build is perfect !
  • If not, you have to transit to another build.
  • So Suicide you overlord at 3:30, and of course, scout their base at the beginning to see if he goes cheesy or not !
  • At 100% spire, build 6 or 7 Muta, and pute pressure on their workers.
  • If he doesn't surrend immediatly, he will build turrets, so don't try to put more pressure !
  • Try to see their composition, muta/gling/baneling are very strong against bioball/tank ! Roach too :D
  • Sorry I don't have replay, I use it often but I'm not a pro so i'm not a good example for you !

Adding in more queens and a spine to prevent cliff jumps is another option to defend reaper attacks. Roaches are very slow until you finish the speed upgrade and can be heavily abused by reapers, may as well just wait for Mutas if you're going to go that route.

If you see a lot of barracks as Zerg with your first scout, that means Terran will certainly go mass reapers, muta are strong against reaper, but their timing attack are about 3-4 minutes, and mutas spawn around 5minutes, so my advice to counter these reapers are :
- Stop going mutas and switch on roach/zerglings that you put in minerals to defend attack waves
OR
- Go muta anyway and defend with some zergling and one or two spines in your minerals !

The first solution is better, more sure ;)

Thanks for the detailed build and explanation! always interesting to see what sort of timings you can manage when you go all out.

Question: let's say you do scout a bunch of Barracks early with your overlord. Do you commit to it anyways, or what do you usually switch to instead?
