Description

This Version of the 3 Roach Opener follows it up with a very Strong Roach Ravager Push of ~41 Drones. It is primarily aimed at Terrans who do not Open with a Banshee / Liberator.

Goal of the Build

The Goal is to either kill the Terran player or contain him on 2 Base while you drone up your 3rd Base.

Who Am I

I am a Grandmaster Zerg who streams a lot on https://www.twitch.tv/railgan . The 3 Roach Opener is my go to build versus Terran and I play many different variations.

General Build Order

This will be a general overview. For detailed Infos check Analysis / the Video.

OPENER

  • 17 Pool
  • 18 Hatch
  • 17 Gas
  • Build 2 Drones (18 Supply) and rally them to the Gas
  • 1 Pair of Lings + Queen when Pool is done. Attack the Terran Natural with the 2 Lings.
  • Next 150 Minerals Roach Warren - Use one Drone from the Gas.
  • Build an Overlord
  • Drone to 22 Supply (3 Drones in Gas)
  • @100% Queen build another Queen in Main
  • @100% Roach Warren 2 Roaches in Main 1 Roach in Natural
  • @150 Minerals 3rd Queen in Natural (use one for Creep Spreading)
  • now Harass with Roaches and Drone at home

LAIR TIME

  • @100 Gas build Lair
  • @3:30 1 more Gas
  • @3:45 1 additional Gasses --> Keep some defensive Roaches for Hellion Attacks
  • @Lair Start Roach Speed, scout with an overseer. If you see Techlab Starport Swap to the Spire Variation (linked above).
  • Build a 3rd as soon as you can and get 8 Roaches. Move them across the map and morph them into Ravagers while you reinforce with mass Roach.

Analysis

3 Ravager Biles are enough to kill Siege Tanks. Use that knowledge!!

The build works best versus 3 CC openers. If the Terran allins just drone up your 3rd.

Don't try killing him too hard. Get ahead and stay ahead! Just drone up your 3rd.
