Analysis
The reason for the small ling flood is to stop greedy opponents in their tracks, but to also assist against aggressive opponents.
Roach production timing changes with every game because you want to first get an economic advantage while also not being TOO greedy because you start making your army. For example, if you kill your opponents 3rd with the ling flood while getting your own 3rd up, you can drone to 2.5 saturation and then mass Roaches to have that economic advantage behind your army production.
