Analysis

This is a weird opener because it builds a stray gas for a few minutes, but it maximizes gas input to do a tech switch more efficiently, based on what I scout.

Walling

I start with the first probe, going straight into the ramp of the natural expansion to build the first pylon. At 0:46, I give a small preview of the way I figure where the pylon goes (given that this is an extensive map and the entrance is also big):

For the wall, I started by positioning the pylon placeholder next to the rocks on the edge, as exactly shown at 0:47:

Then you'll notice I start moving it to the right and one square down:

I do it by counting to 5, being the counter one in the first position (next to the rocks). Then I start to count 1 square to the right till I reach 5. The logic behind it is that the entrance will be between the gateway and the pylon, together with the cybercore, as shown in the following picture:

enter image description here

Finally, after counting to 5, I count 1 square below because I need the cybercore and the stargate to fit on the remaining space. Picture for reference: enter image description here

In other maps, you might not need to count the extra square (count to 6). Do it if the circle's edge doesn't look like it in the picture.

Thats it, placing the Cybercore and any other 3x3 building like the Stargate or Forge will fit perfectly.

Scouting

This opener works if the Zerg player is doing the standard or economical opener:

  • When the scouting probe approaches the enemy base:

    1. You'll see the hatchery building at the natural. It's essential to notice if the hatch just started building; if it does, then I don't Chrono my nexus. I only Chrono if the hatch is almost halfway built or around it. I don't return the scouting probe. Instead, it patrols their nats entrance to see if lings are coming out. The build changes a bit without Chrono cause of the timing of the probes doing things, but you can figure it out.

      a) You should see the Spawning Pool Still needs to start, is about to start, or has recently started. Other than that, the build changes to the scouting probe patrolling the natural's entrance for lings and being ready to wall with two gates. You can use the second Chrono based on the hatchery's building progress (as stated before, if it just started, save it until you see the spawning pool's status).

    2. If, and big IF, there is no hatch, then I panic: I cancel my second gas and probe production and immediately pull the gas mining probe to the natural; then I desperately check if the Spawning Pool is done or almost done.

      a) If the Spawning Pool is not done, they should be mining gas, and if that is the case, then I build my nexus in my nat, save one Chrono and carefully measure enough minerals to wall the moment I see lings. Also. At this point the whole build has changed completely. b) If there is no gas, then this is a 12-pool, and you'll see Six lings spawn almost immediately. Then, I instantly return the probe and start walling. At this point, the build has changed to defend a 12-pool.

THAT'S IT
