Description

The objective of this build is to a hit a strong Roach/Hydra timing while keeping safe vs various Protoss aggression's. This is recommended for Silver to Gold level and shouldn't be too hard to execute for players at that level. Minimal scouting is required as this build is safe vs most things, but in the analysis I will go over some basic scouting and things that player's can add in to make this build and their play stronger (those notes may apply more to the Gold level, not so much Silver).

If executed perfectly you should hit the Protoss base with 150+ supply at 7:45 with 28 Roaches, 9 Hydras and 1 Overseer. In Gold if you hit 130+ by this time you should beat most opponents, in Silver if you hit 120+ supply at this time you should beat most opponents.

This build could also work in ZvT, but fighting Tanks if the Tanks are sieged and on high ground will shut this down.

If you're Bronze or at the lower end of Silver check out my other build which is a +1 Roach Speed timing off of 44 drones, http://lotv.spawningtool.com/build/24369/. This Roach/Hydra build still counters 2 base allins as the other one does, but this one gets up to 55 drones so better macro is needed for this build than for the other build.

13  0:13  Overlord  First overlord send to opponent's natural (2nd base), this overlord send to your own natural
17  0:55  Hatchery  Send drone when you have 200 minerals so it arrives when you have 300
  18  1:05  Extractor
  18  1:21  Spawning Pool
19  1:39  Overlord  Stop making drones
19  2:06  Queen x2  Take 2 drones off of the gas geyser
  23  2:08  Zergling x2
25  2:13  Metabolic Boost  Resume making non stop drones
31  2:43  Queen  From main, first Queen injects and then walks to edge of creep (will be future Queen for 3rd base)
34  3:00  Hatchery  Only make this if your opponent takes a 2nd base (if they do not, drone to 1.5 base saturation and spam units to defend 1 base allin)
  33  3:04  Overlord
36  3:14  Overlord  Refill the gas in your main base
36  3:19  Creep Tumor  Initial Queen makes tumor to connect main and natural, then walk Queen to natural
  41  3:36  Roach Warren
  44  3:51  Overlord
44  3:53  Creep Tumor x2  Initial Queen makes tumor to connect natural to 3rd and then becomes Inject Queen for 3rd base
  44  4:00  Extractor x2  Once 2 bases have 16/16 drones on minerals, add 2nd and 3rd gas
50  4:08  Spore Crawler x3  Make 1 Spore Crawler/mineral line around 4:00 (helps vs DTs, Oracles and Phoenix play)
50  4:25  Lair  Once 2 bases at 16/16 drones on minerals and 3 gases filled with 3/3 drones, make a Lair
49  4:27  Roach x8  These Roaches will help against most P builds where they pressure off 2 bases then take a 3rd
  63  4:44  Overlord x3
74  5:15  Evolution Chamber x2  When lair is 75% done make 2 Evolution Chambers
78  5:28  Hydralisk Den  As soon as Lair is done
77  5:30  Overseer  As soon as Lair is done
  77  5:33  Overlord x2
80  5:38  Extractor x2  Once at 16/16 drones in main and natural and 8/16 on 3rd base, add 4th and 5th gas (once those gases are filled droning is done)
79  5:47  Zerg Missile Weapons Level 1  When evo's are done get +1 missile, +1 carapace
  79  5:48  Zerg Ground Armor Level 1
79  5:58  Muscular Augments  Get Hydra upgrade when Hydra Den finishes
79  6:00  Glial Reconstitution  Get Roach Speed when Hydra Den finishes
79  6:01  Hydralisk  Mass Roach/Hydra at a 2:1 ratio until the 4 upgrades finish, just before they finish attack
79  6:02  Roach  Try to make 1 overlord per inject, so inject 3 bases, make 3 overlords, then spam roach/hydra

Analysis

This analysis will be better information for Gold+ players, for Silver only venture into the more advanced stuff if you can manage to execute the build vs AI up to the 6:30+ mark with no injects missed (no Queens hitting 50 energy).

The first overlord is sent to opponent's natural to scout if there is a 1 base all-in or not. If there is no natural by 3:00 at the latest stop making drones and get units out as soon as possible.

The overlord made at 13 supply just have it sit over your natural to check for cannon rush. If a probe comes in and builds a pylon, then bring some drones down. Have 4 drones target each cannon that the Protoss tries to make (click on the structure as it's building to make sure it's a cannon and not a pylon, as pylons cost less and have more hit points and shields) and have 1 drone attacking the enemy probe.

In this build I only use 3 Queens but if you can manage to execute the build well and not miss injects, consider adding a 4th Queen when the 3rd Queen is done in order to spread creep.

The Overlord made at 19 supply can be sent to opponent's 3rd base and when lair is done you can poop creep there to delay their 3rd base (if they do decide to go for a 3rd). The 33 supply Overlord can do the same on wherever their 4th base or alternative 3rd base would go.

Do not worry if you scout no 3rd base by 5:30 to 6:00. This build only goes to 55 drones (2.5 bases saturation, 5 gases) which is the same mineral to gas ratio as a full 3 base 66 drones (6 gases), but you blindly start massing units off of 2.5 base income so you are blindly countering a 2 base allin. Also don't worry too much about 2 base adept pressure's into a 3rd base. That's what the 8 Roaches are for at 2 base saturation. You can also go for 18~22 lings instead of 8 Roaches if you prefer as they are faster, but they also cost more larvae. Could also go in the middle and go 4 Roaches and 8~10 lings.

If you want to start learning some scouting (recommended for mid-high gold) use the overseer to scout your opponent's main/natural as soon as it's made (as soon as Lair is done). If 130+ supply when you attack this build should beat most ground or ground/air combo's at the Gold level, but may lose to mass pure Air. If you scout 2+ Stargates and a Fleet Beacon or a bunch Carriers or a bunch of Void Rays when you Overseer scout. I would suggest throwing down a Nydus worm and making extra Queens. Wait for the 4 upgrades as usual, but instead of a frontal attack, Nydus into their main base or in front of their natural. Load in Queens first (hopefully 6~9 Queens) and then other units and then set the unit rallies straight to the Nydus. Queens can spam transfuse on the Nydus as units come out. Vs this make more Hydras than usual, make Roach/Hydra at a 1:1 ratio instead of 2:1. Hydra/Queen can just a-move to kill interceptors (and afterwards Hydras can target Carriers) and you can use Roaches to focus down pylons that power Stargates and the Stargates themselves.

Some may be wondering why I suggest this build to Silver/Gold and not above that. Macro wise this build only goes to 55 drones. In Silver/Gold this is not considered an allin as many players struggle to get to those numbers, in Plat+ a full 3 base saturation is generally considered macro and is 66+ drones. Getting to 66+ drones is a bit harder as you not only have to scout for the 1 base all-in, but also for the 2 base pressure builds and 2 base allins and know the correct reactions to those. Blindly making units at 2.5 base saturation to counter a potential 2 base allin and then fully droning the 3rd wouldn't be good macro overall. In Plat+ Protoss have better scouting and will see that they are making workers for their 3rd and that the Zerg has no 4th and will get the appropriate defense. If they add in Sentries and Immortals and forcefield you out and split your army in half you're going to have a bad time. Also if they add Disruptors and have decent control with them your attack will get shut down.

Well, the salt encoding is broken : it says "Swarm host" instead of "Creep tumor"
